Nairobi will elect a new Woman Representative in 2027. Esther Passaris (Women Rep, Nairobi) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), in the seat since 2017, said on 23 February 2026 that she would not seek a third term and would run for Makadara MP instead. As of 23 September 2026 the Star described the main contest as Millicent Omanga, expected to seek the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, against former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo, who has been endorsed by leaders linked to Linda Mwananchi. At least five others had also entered.

Why the seat is open

Passaris made the announcement on Radio47's morning show. "I have decided to vie for the Makadara seat because I believe I can make a meaningful contribution to development in that constituency," she said, the Star reported. After two full terms, she said, it was right for another woman to hold the affirmative-action seat. George Aladwa (Makadara), who holds the Makadara seat now, is running for Nairobi governor.

The two front-runners

Omanga backed Ruto in 2022 and ran for this seat on UDA. She later left the party, and on 8 February 2026 she aligned with the united opposition. "I will still be contesting for the seat," she told the Star. She has appeared alongside Gachagua's family, and on 20 September the Star reported that she "is expected to seek the DCP ticket".

Faith Odhiambo became the 51st president of the Law Society of Kenya in March 2024, Business Daily reported. She has spoken out on political violence. On 24 August 2026 she told Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen that if the state could identify violence, it should identify the attackers, the Star reported. She is also part of the Sifuna camp's dispute over the "Linda" party name at the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.

Among the rest, Faith Nguthu launched her bid on UDA in June 2026. "If women are not given a seat at the decision-making table, they must break the table," she said, according to the Star.

Nairobi's wider fight

This race is a stand-in for the city-wide contest between DCP and Linda Mwananchi. In August 2026 Gachagua claimed DCP had "taken over" Nairobi and predicted it would win 16 of the 17 constituencies. The governor's race has a crowded field of its own; see the Nairobi governor race.

The Woman Rep result is declared on a county-wide form, explained in how Form 39 works.

What to watch

  • Whether DCP formally gives Omanga its ticket.
  • Which party Faith Odhiambo runs on, once the Sifuna camp settles on a vehicle.
  • Whether ODM fields a candidate or leaves the seat to UDA under their arrangement.
  • Nominations for Woman Representative at the IEBC, reported for 7 to 11 June 2027. Our guide to what it takes for a woman to get on the ballot covers the route.
