The three that eliminate people
10 February 2027. Public officers who have not resigned cannot be nominated. Not "will face a challenge" — cannot. Every cycle produces officials who leave this until January and discover a three-month contractual notice period.
8 May 2027. The wall for independents, and the same day primaries and internal disputes must conclude. An aspirant who loses a primary on 6 May cannot realistically dispute it and go independent. That decision has to be made in March.
30 October 2026. Nomination rules certified. These decide whether your primary is a members' vote, a consensus meeting or a committee decision, and after certification they are the rules. Your only window to influence them is now.
The one nobody talks about
15 October 2026 — specimen signatures.
When your nomination papers are filed in 2027, somebody from your party signs them, and the IEBC verifies that signature against what the party filed in October 2026. A party that reshuffles officials in March 2027 without updating the commission creates a mismatch, and the person holding invalid papers is you.
Ask your party, in writing, who its authorised officials for nomination purposes are. Before October.
What to do in the next eight weeks
Get the three written answers. What nomination method applies to my seat. Is my seat zoned to a coalition partner. What is the party's internal aspirant filing deadline.
Get onto the membership list properly, with the right ID number, well before March.
Start the ward structure. Named coordinator per ward, volunteers with tasks, agent recruitment against an enumerated list of polling streams.
That last one is the only item on this page that nobody will remind you about, and it is the one that decides whether the rest of it matters.

The deadline that is not on the list
The register closing.
Continuous Voter Registration is running now and will stop at a point before polling day, after which no new voter can be added and no transfer made.
That date is the real deadline for the single cheapest campaign activity available — registering supporters who are not on the roll, and transferring supporters registered where they no longer live.
Every other date on the gazetted list governs whether you can be a candidate. This one governs how many people can vote for you, and it arrives before most campaigns have started thinking about turnout.
Work backwards from it rather than from 10 August 2027, and treat registration as a task with a per-ward number and a named owner rather than as a message.
Frequently Asked Questions
When must Kenyan public officers resign to run in 2027?
By 10 February 2027, six months before the 10 August 2027 poll. Missing the date disqualifies an officer from nomination.
What is the deadline for independent candidates in 2027?
8 May 2027, which is also the date by which party primaries and internal disputes must be concluded — so the decision to run independent must be taken before a primary result is known.
