Who won where in August
Kenyatta's Mount Kenya vote was almost total. Nyandarua gave him 98.99 per cent, Kirinyaga 98.62, Nyeri 98.44 and Murang'a 97.89. He also took most of the Rift Valley, from Kericho (92.67 per cent) to Nakuru (84.86), and won Mandera and Marsabit with about 83 per cent each.
Odinga swept Western, Ukambani, the Coast and all of Nyanza except Nyamira, which went to Kenyatta. Homa Bay gave him 99.35 per cent and Siaya 99.12. He won Kakamega with 87.39 per cent and Makueni with 90.59. Nairobi went to Odinga narrowly, 828,826 to 791,291.

Why the Supreme Court annulled it
Odinga's coalition, the National Super Alliance, petitioned the Supreme Court. On 1 September 2017 the court, by a majority of four judges to two, found substantial failures in how results were transmitted from polling stations to constituency tallying centres and on to the national tallying centre, and held that the IEBC had not conducted the election in accordance with the Constitution and the law. Chief Justice David Maraga, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu and Justices Smokin Wanjala and Isaac Lenaola formed the majority. Justices Jackton Ojwang and Njoki Ndung'u dissented.
The court said it did not need to decide whether the IEBC's servers had been hacked, as NASA alleged, or whether Kenyatta had committed any election offence. It nullified the result under Article 140 of the Constitution and ordered a fresh election within 60 days. It was the first time a Kenyan court had annulled a presidential election. Kenyatta said he disagreed with the decision but would respect it.
The 26 October rerun, briefly
The IEBC first set the repeat election for 17 October, then moved it to 26 October. Odinga withdrew on 10 October, saying the commission had not made the reforms needed for a credible vote. On 18 October Commissioner Roselyn Akombe resigned and left for the United States, saying the commission could not deliver a credible election.
The vote went ahead on 26 October. In much of Nyanza it did not happen at all: ELOG's county data records no votes cast in Siaya or Homa Bay, 904 in Kisumu and a turnout of 8.64 per cent in Migori. The IFES Election Guide says boycotts in 25 of 291 constituencies stopped voting there. Nationally, 7,652,568 ballots were cast, 39.03 per cent of the register.
The IEBC declared Kenyatta the winner on 30 October with 7,483,895 votes. Odinga, whose name stayed on the ballot, received 73,228. Two new petitions were filed, and in November 2017 the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the result. Kenyatta was sworn in for his second term on 28 November 2017. In March 2018 he and Odinga publicly settled their dispute in what became known as the handshake.
