At the second reading of Kenya's Finance Bill 2024 on 20 June 2024, the division was 204 for, 115 against, with no abstentions and 29 of the 349 members absent.

Here is the published list of those recorded as voting NO.

The caveat, first

The published list contains 112 names against an official tally of 115, and the reporting that circulated at the time did not give constituencies for this side of the division.

Nothing has been added. A partial list published as partial is useful; a partial list dressed up as complete is not.

Two things worth noticing

The division was largely along party lines. Reporting at the time described members maintaining party positions in a publicised vote, which is the normal behaviour of a whipped legislature and is worth stating rather than treating a party-line vote as a scandal.

Some members disputed the record. At least two MPs publicly stated that they had voted NO, in circumstances where the recorded position was contested. That is a reminder that a published division list is a report of a process, not an infallible document.

Why this record has a second life

Because several people on this list have moved position since, and because the Finance Bill argument has not ended.

Kenya passed another Finance Bill in June 2026, this time by 122 to 40 with 187 of 349 members absent. Whatever one thinks of the 2024 division, every member on both of these lists turned up and was counted. That is more than can be said for the majority of the House two years later.

What voters can do with it

Find your MP. Then ask a question that is harder than "how did you vote":

"You voted this way in June 2024. How did you vote in June 2026, and were you in the chamber?"

A representative who was counted twice has a record. One who was counted once and absent once has a different one.
